My commitment to education began in 1998, when I saw firsthand at Minds Matter, a mentoring organization, that while talent is everywhere, opportunity and quality resources are not. Over the next two decades, I became an entrepreneur and executive, leading small and large ventures like Education Connection, The Learning House, and Wiley Education Services to help make online learning effective and mainstream. Through it all, I realized our industry was falling short on the "iron triangle" of access, affordability, and outcomes, evidenced by ballooning student debt and decades-low NAEP scores (our nation's K-12 report card).

As I contemplated my next venture recently, I came back to the promise of generative AI. Could this finally deliver the personalized learning that Bloom's 2 Sigma study proved is the only path to mastery? That belief led me to Mark Naufel and the incredible team at Axio. They have built an AI-first platform that I believe can fundamentally solve the challenges plaguing K-12 and Higher Education.

We still have great work ahead, but we are grateful for our early adopter clients who are "daring greatly" to change how they administer education. They are demonstrating that a native AI platform can deliver a step-function improvement in student outcomes. Our mission is critical, and as Teddy Roosevelt said in his now famous 1910 speech entitled "The Man in the Arena", we must "strive valiantly" to change a system that is failing by almost every metric.
